I. Eligibility
The competition is open to all participants of the 2024 Washington International Piano Festival.
Categories: Pre-college (up to 18) and College/Professional (18 and up)
II. Repertoire Requirements
Each participant needs to present a 15-minute program of solo piano works representing at least 2 stylistic periods. The program must include one piano miniature (less than 4 minutes long). All repertoire must be performed from memory. Competitors who choose to play a sonata or suite will be allowed to play a single movement.
III. Awards
- 1st Prize: Diploma and Gold Medal
The 1st Prize winner of the College/Professional category will be invited to present a solo piano recital for the 2025 Washington International Piano Festival. Only one 1st Prize will be awarded in each category. - 2nd Prize: Diploma and Silver Medal
- 3rd Prize: Diploma and Bronze Medal
- Honorable Mention Diplomas
- Winners of both categories will be invited to perform at the 2025 Washington International Piano Festival’s Young Artist Recital Series.
All prizes except the 1st Prize can be shared. The WIPF reserves the right to give additional prizes. Prizes will be presented at the Gala Concert of the Prizewinners of the Catholic University Piano Competition on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 6:00 pm, in Ward Recital Hall. All winners are required to participate.
IV. Judges
The CUA Piano Competition will be judged by piano faculty and guest artists of the 2024 WIPF. Judges’ decisions are final. Judges are not obligated to award all prizes. Judges have the right to interrupt a performance during the competition.
V. Schedule
The CUA Piano Competition Preliminary Round will take place in Ward Recital Hall Monday, July 29 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (with a lunch break from noon to 1:00 pm).
The Final Round will take place on Friday, August 2 at 6:30 pm. Competitors will perform in alphabetical order.
